Strengthening and Conditioning

Building for a pain-free future. Goal-oriented strength programs under physiotherapist supervision.

What Is Strengthening and Conditioning?

Strength & Conditioning (S&C) is not just a component of physiotherapy for athletes — it's essential for everyone. Strong muscles are required for full recovery after injury, for protection before injury, and for preserving function as we age. In my clinic this service is not just gym exercise; it is a process based on biomechanical evaluation, targeting specific weaknesses and programmed to your goals. A desk worker and a professional tennis player have different needs — the program must be different too.

Who Can Benefit?

  • People with recurrent injuries
  • Athletes with an injury history who want to cement their return
  • Those with low back pain rooted in core weakness
  • Desk workers with postural problems
  • People with aging-related weakness and fear of falling
  • New mothers looking to rebuild after pregnancy
  • Individuals rebuilding muscle mass after weight loss
  • Amateur athletes looking to increase performance safely

Program Structure

Functional Movement Screening

FMS, Y-Balance and single-leg squat testing identify the weak links in your basic movement patterns.

Progressive Resistance Training

A program built on scientific loading principles, starting with bodyweight and progressing to bands and weights.

Core Stabilization

Activation of deep abdominals, multifidus and pelvic floor — the foundation of the entire kinetic chain.

Mobility and Flexibility

Strength alone isn't enough. Movement quality and joint health depend on mobility work, which is part of the program.

Balance and Proprioception

Balance function, which declines with age, is preserved and improved with targeted work.

How the Program Is Built

In the first session we evaluate your health history, movement patterns and goals. Measurements (strength, flexibility, balance) are taken and an 8–12-week program is built accordingly. The program includes 2–3 sessions per week of 45–60 minutes. Weeks 1–4 build form and neuromuscular control. Weeks 4–8 increase load and bring strength gains. Weeks 8–12 add functional patterns and activity-specific work. Monthly re-measurement lets us track your progress objectively.

What You Gain

  • Significantly reduced risk of injury
  • Increased strength and endurance
  • Improved posture and prevention of back/neck pain
  • Improved metabolic health
  • Preservation of bone density (osteoporosis prevention)
  • Higher energy levels
  • Better confidence and body awareness
  • Better sleep quality and stress tolerance

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a physiotherapist instead of a gym?

Basing the program on a biomechanical assessment, identifying the weak links and personalizing it to your injury history makes the difference. Someone following a generic program wastes time and may even get injured.

Will lifting weights make my back pain worse?

With proper technique, no — it actually reduces pain. 80% of low back pain comes from muscle weakness and faulty movement patterns. A strong core is the best protection for your back.

Is it too late to start after 60?

Not at all. Even at 60+, regular resistance training brings meaningful gains in muscle mass, bone density and fall prevention. The program is tailored to age and condition.
