What Is Manual Therapy?
Manual therapy is a science-based approach in which trained physiotherapists use only their hands to assess and treat musculoskeletal problems. Through specific techniques applied to joints, soft tissues and the nervous system, the goal is to reduce pain, restore range of motion and rebuild functional capacity. In my clinic I blend techniques from the Maitland, Mulligan, Kaltenborn and McKenzie schools, tailored to each patient. Manual therapy isn't used alone — it produces the best results when combined with exercise therapy and patient education.
Who Can Benefit?
- People with chronic low back and neck pain
- Patients with cervical or lumbar disc herniation
- Those with headaches and migraines (especially cervicogenic)
- Shoulder impingement syndrome and frozen shoulder
- Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow
- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems
- Postural disorders and muscle imbalances
- Post-surgical patients with limited mobility
Techniques Used
Joint Mobilization
Rhythmic, controlled movements restore normal range of motion to restricted joints. Frequently used on the spine, shoulder and knee.
Joint Manipulation
Fast, small-amplitude thrusts correct within the joint's physiological limits. A controlled technique applied only by trained specialists.
Soft Tissue Mobilization
Massage-like techniques release tension in muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. Myofascial release falls in this category.
Trigger Point Therapy
Pressure on painful knots in the muscles releases tension and reduces referred pain.
Neural Mobilization
Techniques that improve the mobility of nerve tissue. Effective in sciatica, carpal tunnel, and other nerve-entrapment conditions.
What a Session Looks Like
The first session starts with a detailed assessment. I analyze your complaints, medical history, and movement patterns. Special tests are performed when indicated, and I explain my findings to you in plain language. Together we draft a personalized treatment plan. Sessions typically last 30–45 minutes and happen 2–3 times a week. Depending on severity, the total number of sessions ranges from 6 to 15. Each session combines manual therapy, exercise, and patient education — passive treatment alone doesn't deliver lasting results.
What You Gain
- Significant reduction in pain
- Increased joint range of motion
- Released muscle tension and restored flexibility
- Corrected posture and postural imbalances
- Improved circulation
- Reduced dependency on painkillers
- Easier return to daily activities
- Long-term protection from recurring pain
